ABOUT THE RACE

In May of 2003, the first annual Jon’s Run/Stroll was held at McAllister Park. This event was organized to benefit the efforts of San Antonio’s Any Baby Can - Center for Infant and Child Loss and support research of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Jon Carl Stephenson died of SIDS on April 25, 2002 and is the inspiration for this benefit run. SIDS is the unexpected, sudden death of any infant under one year old in which an autopsy does not show an explainable cause of death. Every year 2500 babies die in the U.S. from SIDS and it is the 3rd leading cause of death in infants between one month and one year of age. Although this event has Jon’s name, it honors all babies and children whose lives ended too soon from any cause. The Center for Infant and Child Loss continues to educate our community as well as offering help to people who have lost a child.
